Dr. Zoltán Asztalos is a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy with extensive clinical experience in the treatment of complex mental health disorders. His therapeutic focus lies on evidence-based psychotherapy—particularly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)—as well as modern integrative treatment approaches such as ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

Born in 1983 in Kemecse, Hungary—an Aquarius—Dr. Asztalos studied medicine at the University of Medicine in Debrecen, where he also completed his specialist training in psychiatry and psychotherapy. In 2013, he successfully passed his board certification with outstanding results through the National Examination Committee in Budapest. In parallel, he advanced his psychotherapeutic training in CBT and obtained certification from the European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT) in London in 2014.

His professional career includes positions at several renowned psychiatric institutions in Hungary and Germany. During his time at the University Hospital of Debrecen, he gained broad clinical experience in general psychiatry, addiction medicine, psychosomatic medicine, and geriatric psychiatry, as well as in emergency psychiatry and neurology.

From 2014 onwards, Dr. Asztalos worked at the Psychiatric Hospital Mainkofen in Germany—initially as a specialist physician and later as a senior consultant. There, he assumed leadership responsibilities on private and specialised wards with a focus on affective disorders, particularly treatment-resistant depression. A key milestone of his clinical work was his active involvement in the development and implementation of innovative therapeutic procedures, including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and ketamine therapy.

From 2022 to 2024, Dr. Asztalos served as Medical Director at the Haselbach Specialist Clinic of Caritas Regensburg. In 2022, he also founded the project “Tempel der Seele” (“Temple of the Soul”), with the aim of supporting psychological healing processes in a holistic, individualised, and collaborative manner. Since 2024, he has additionally been offering structured online therapy programmes to make psychotherapeutic support accessible independent of location and with low barriers to entry.

Today, Dr. Asztalos combines classical psychiatric and psychotherapeutic expertise with modern neurobiological and substance-assisted therapeutic approaches. Since 2025, he has been working as a consultant physician in collaboration with, among others, Medicare Clinics in Debrecen and PSI Pain Clinic in Budapest. In Budapest, he is particularly committed to strengthening the establishment of substance-assisted psychotherapy in Hungary and actively contributing to its further development.

His therapeutic philosophy is shaped by scientific precision, ethical responsibility, and a deep appreciation for each individual’s personal life story. The aim of his work is to enable sustainable change—especially in cases where conventional treatment approaches reach their limits.
