We're not wrong – we're just too early. And that's precisely why research is so important right now.

Dr. Zoltán Asztalos is a specialist in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy with many years of clinical experience in the treatment of complex mental health conditions. His therapeutic focus lies on evidence-based psychotherapy, particularly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as modern integrative treatment approaches such as substance-assisted psychotherapy with ketamine.
Born in 1983 in Kemecse (Hungary)—an Aquarius—Dr. Asztalos completed his medical studies at the University of Medicine in Debrecen. He also completed his specialist training in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy there. In 2013, he successfully passed the national board examination with excellent results through the National Examination Committee in Budapest. In parallel, he deepened his psychotherapeutic training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and in 2014 obtained certification from the European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT) in London.
His professional career has taken him through several renowned psychiatric institutions in Hungary and Germany. During his work at the University Hospital Debrecen, he gained extensive clinical experience in general psychiatric care, addiction medicine, psychosomatic medicine, and geriatric psychiatry, as well as in emergency psychiatry and neurology.
From 2014 onwards, Dr. Asztalos worked at the Psychiatric Hospital Mainkofen in Germany—initially as a specialist physician and later as a senior physician (consultant). There, he held leading responsibilities on private and specialized wards with a focus on the treatment of affective disorders, particularly treatment-resistant depression. A key milestone of his clinical work was his active involvement in establishing and implementing innovative therapeutic procedures, including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and ketamine therapy.
From 2022 to 2024, Dr. Asztalos served as Chief Physician at the Specialist Clinic Haselbach of Caritas Regensburg. In 2022, he also founded the project “Tempel der Seele”, with the aim of supporting mental healing processes in a holistic, individualized, and respectful way. Since 2024, he has additionally been offering structured online therapy programs to make psychotherapeutic support accessible regardless of location and with a low threshold for entry.
Today, Dr. Asztalos combines classical psychiatric and psychotherapeutic expertise with modern neurobiological and substance-assisted therapeutic approaches. Since 2025, he has been working as a Consultant Physician, collaborating among others with Medicare Clinics in Debrecen and the PSI Pain Clinic in Budapest. In Budapest, he is particularly committed to further establishing substance-assisted psychotherapy in Hungary and actively contributing to its continued development.
His therapeutic approach is characterized by scientific precision, ethical responsibility, and deep appreciation for each individual’s personal life story. The goal of his work is to enable sustainable processes of change—especially where conventional treatment approaches reach their limits.
